The locomotive frames and bogies are all laser cut from 10mm steel plate. They are tabbed and slotted, bolted together and then fully welded to create an extremely rigid and strong box. The locomotive’s weight and centre of gravity is controlled by lightening measures in that plate , and the running boards themselves are a 2mm steel sheet designed to both hide that construction detail and produce a pleasingly cosmetically riveted skin.
The buffer beams are 15mm steel plate with a 5mm cosmetic skin, and they are welded to three horizontal frame stretchers between the frames to ensure a robust coupling point for the train.
The horn guides are solid cast iron, milled to precisely slot into the accurately laser cut frames, and they are bolted firmly with rivet headed bolts to retain them in place. The whole lot is then powder coated in 80% gloss and a texture is applied to the running boards and footwell for grip and aesthetics.
